It’s Been a While…

Hey! Remember me? Don’t worry, I’m not insulted if you don’t.

It’s been almost 18 months since I last updated anything here. At the time, I didn’t intend to stay away. I had plans to post about Christmas preparations and all sorts of other things.

But, it’s true what they say about best-laid plans. Life had other ideas.

So, here I am in April 2024. Better late than never? A lot has changed, so I guess I should probably bring you all up to speed.

Let’s start with the biggest changes:

First of all, I’m now a single parent. It’s complicated and I won’t be going into details, but I think this is probably the biggest change in our lives. It’s also the reason why I haven’t posted anything in so long. It took a while to find our feet and get things back on track, but I’ve been on my own with my brood for about 14 months now, and we’re all doing well.

The next biggest thing is probably the fact that we moved house. 2023 was utter chaos, and throwing a house move into the mix certainly didn’t make things any easier. But, just before Christmas we picked up the keys to our new home. Can’t say I’d recommend selling a house and moving with five children, but it was definitely worth it. I’ll be writing more about our move in a different post.

Now on to the things that have stayed the same:

All of the chicks are still in the nest at the moment, so I’m definitely still outnumbered. Life is the usual mixture of chaos and carnage, and I still sometimes prefer it when they’re all asleep.

I might not have been writing here, but I’m still writing professionally. It’s still how I pay my bills, and I’m eternally grateful for the wonderful clients who understood my need for flexibility over the last year-or-so. I love the flexibility that freelancing gives me…although I’ll never say no to more work.

Most of all, I’m still honest. The last 18 months have been hard, impossibly so at times. But, now more than ever, I believe it’s important to be honest about that. I’ve always been honest (brutally so at times), so don’t expect that to change.

So…what’s next?

With so many of us living under one roof, there’s always something going on. Now that I’m back, I’m planning on sharing adventures, experiences, advice and opinions. With a fair amount of humour and sarcasm on the side.
